South West Regional Group – Virtual Garden Tour – Katsura Imperial Villa in Kyoto
March 13 @ 2:45 pm - 5:00 pm£5
Katsura Rikyu : Simplicity-in-grandeur in a Kyoto imperial villa – guided by Yoko Kawaguchi
Katsura Rikyū is a renowned17th-century imperial villa complex set among the grounds of an extensive pond garden located to the south-west of the city of Kyoto. Begun by an imperial prince and later extended by his son, Katsura Rikyū is an exercise in elegance and restraint, marking a high point in the history of garden-making in Japan. It is a garden in which grandeur is expressed through a minute attention to detail. Yoko Kawaguchi will provide a guided tour, pointing out many of the exquisite features which proved so inspirational to later garden designers in Japan and abroad.
The meeting opens at 2.45pm and the Garden tour starts at 3pm. After her talk Yoko is happy to answer your questions.
In the second part of the meeting we will use Breakout groups so you’ll be able to interact directly with other members. The suggested topic is “my favourite Japanese garden”, so you may wish to give this some thought before the meeting. We hope that you enjoy this opportunity to interact more closely with other JGS members and guests.
In line with other virtual Regional JGS meetings in 2021 we are seeking a voluntary donation – an amount of £5 per household is suggested. Electronic payment is preferred to: “Japanese Garden Society – South West” Sort code 30 99 29 Account no. 01595110
