SE Lecture Meeting
17th March 2018 @ 10:30 am - 4:00 pm
£15Our March lecture meeting will be held at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Highlights of the meeting include:
Kingston Lacy Japanese Gardens – Pauline Bowyer
Pauline will describe the gardens and discuss their history and talk about the work JGS volunteers have undertaken in the garden.
THERE ARE NO JAPANESE GARDENS! – Bruce Ginsberg
The talk will look at gardens and nature and their experience from a Zen perspective. It will examine how gardens are both created and traditionally experienced within Zen meditative culture.
HOKUSAI’S LANDSCAPES: Mountains, Bridges & Waterfalls and their Relationship to Garden Design – Suzanne Perrin B.A.Hons; M.A.
Many of the ideas found in Hokusai’s sketches were used to create picturesque features in the residences of Daimyo officials, the equivalent of nobility in the Edo period in Japan. A comparison of some of Hokusai’s most notable landscape series and sketches will be analysed, as well as pointers to look for in his ever famous print series of “The Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji”, first published in 1830-32.
