Celebrating peach and cherry blossom time in Japan –
Our springtime lecture meeting is being held jointly with Bristol Museum and marks the end of a special display of Hinamatsuri dolls. Hinamatsuri dolls are a key aspect of the Peach Blossom Festival. Two of the Museum’s exquisite doll sets are on display and this event will offer an insight into Japan’s imperial family, courtly dress and aristocratic traditions. (PICTURE 1)
Yoko Kawaguchi (historian and author on Japanese gardens and culture) will provide two talks outlining the history and cultural significance of Sakura and Hinamatsuri festivals for the Japanese people. After the lectures Kate Newnham (Bristol Museum’s senior curator of visual arts) will be on hand to provide details of the dolls on display to small groups visiting the gallery.
All JGS members and guests are welcome and details are available from email@example.com. Full details of the AGM & lecture and art viewing have been circulated to members in the South West. Attending the AGM and visiting the museum are free. Tickets for the lectures are on sale (£10 each) via the Bristol Museum website https://www.bristolmuseums.org.uk/bristol-museum-and-art-gallery/whats-on/celebrating-peach-and-cherry-blossom-time-in-japan/
