The Society organises and leads tours to Japan exclusively for members to study gardens and related culture. Usually these tours are for two weeks, sometimes three. At least a week is spent in Kyoto. The tours are organised and led by JGS members with experience and knowledge of Japan. Unlike commercially available garden tours, our itineraries include many gardens that are off the tourist trail, and where possible provide access to private gardens giving a rare insight into such spaces.
We tend to visit Japan every 18 months alternating between spring and autumn. In spring we go at Cherry Blossom time in early April, or a little later in May when gardens are in the full spring flush of development and colour. Autumn visits are in November to experience the wonderful maple colours. Contact the Secretary to find out more.
