Meetings: Through regional groups, The Japanese Garden Society meets at various UK locations throughout the year. Meetings vary from informal evening lectures to weekend events, with exhibits from members representing both amateur and professional sectors.
Garden Visits: To public, private and members' gardens.
Garden Tours of Japan: The Society organises and runs regular Garden Tours of Japan. These alternate between spring and autumn, viewing the cherry blossom or azaleas in spring and the magnificent autumn colours in November. Our base is usually Kyoto, with some trips out to other cities and areas. We are able to visit some gardens not normally open to the public and generally visit many places the commercial garden tours do not. These trips are for members only, and are not available to the general public.
The most recent visits have been in May 2007, November 2008, Spring 2010 and November 2011. For an outline visit the last tour page for details of our trip in November 2011.
The next trip will be in April 2013.
Visits to Other Countries: On an occasional basis, visits to other countries have been and will continue to be organised. In the last few years trips to the Netherlands and Denmark have been a great success, and included visits to many private gardens.
Stands and Gardens at RHS and Other Shows: Each year we take a promotional stand at RHS Flower Shows, and on four occassions to date have built Show Gardens, winning two Gold medals, one Silver and one Bronze. The most recent success was a Gold at Chelsea in 2004.
Involvement in Shows allows members to be on the 'inside' of a major Show.
