A compact guide to the history and development of Japanese
gardens in the UK covering four major topics:
1. The gardens of Japan - setting the context for gardens in
the UK and covering styles, history and aspects of design.
2. The Japanese garden in the UK - from early interest following
the Meiji restoration, through the important Japan-British
exhibition of 1910, to the renewal of interest over the last
20 years.
3. Cultural Borrowing - how ideas have been interpreted and
'borrowed' for the different conditiions and cultural setting
in the UK.
4. Gardens in the UK and Ireland open to the public today - A
selected list of gardens with information and images of the
more important ones.
Copies are available from the Society at a cost of £6.15 each
which includes post and packing.

A JGS exhibition also entitled 'visions of paradise' is currently on display at Tatton Park, Cheshire as part of the celebrations marking the centenary since the creation of the Japanese garden there.
